Equinox and Human Rights

Today is equinox. That means the day and the night are the same length. From now on the days will start to get shorter until 22 June, when it is the middle of winter. Then the days will start to get longer and on 22 September it will be equinox again.

Tomorrow will be Human Rights day. On Human Rights day we think about the Sharpville killing. On 21 March 1960, 49 years ago, black people protested against passes in Sharpville because the pass law said that black people had to stay within their own place. They could not move around freely. They walked to the police station. The police were afraid. They started to shoot them. It was wrong to kill them. The pass laws were unfair and inhuman. Today everyone is equal and free in South Africa.
